Student/Postdoctoral Affairs Brown Bag Workshop, Jan. 5, Noon-1:30 pm – C123
“Academic Transitions: Successfully Navigating from Undergraduate to Professor”
Making a major educational or career transition can be intimidating. And yet, each of us will complete several major transitions as we progress from an undergraduate institution to graduate school, and then from graduate school to postdoc, professor, or a position in government or industry outside of academia. Undergraduate student, graduate student, and postdoctoral researcher participants in this workshop will learn strategies and best practices for successfully navigating these changes during one’s academic training and career including the transitions from undergraduate student to a Master’s or PhD graduate program, from a graduate student to a postdoctoral researcher, and from a postdoc to a faculty position or job outside of academia. Participants will have the opportunity to interact with experienced faculty and postdoctoral researchers in small group discussions, and will gain a better understanding of how to best prepare for the next transition in their own education and career.
