Broadening Participation Travel Award Application

SICB Annual Meeting

[Please also visit the Broadening Participation Committee page]

Broadening Participation Travel Awards are intended to allow students, post-docs, and faculty members from a variety of underrepresented groups to attend the SICB annual meeting, by helping to defray the costs of travel, lodging, and registration. The goal of the BP committee is to increase the diversity of SICB and the field of integrative biology at all career stages, in terms of gender, sexual orientation, race/ethnicity, ability/disability, and socioeconomic background.

Broadening Participation Travel Awards for the 2022 SICB meeting are partially funded by a generous donation from the Gans Collections and Charitable Fund Inc., a foundation established by renowned vertebrate morphologist and functional anatomist Carl Gans. To learn more about the foundation and additional opportunities for conference travel grants, please visit http://carlgans.org.

Submit an application via this online form and have one letter of recommendation uploaded to the following site: http://sicb.org/meetings/bpform/letter.php. In case of technical difficulties, recommendations can also be e-mailed directly to the BP Committee chair at Chair.BPC@sicb.org.

Completed application, including the single letter of recommendation, must be received by 5pm PST on October 17th 2021. Decisions will be made on or around November 16, 2021. Preference is given to applicants who are presenting; however, SICB attendees who are not presenting are also eligible for awards, and we especially encourage applicants from the local area who may be interested in attending for one or more days to learn about SICB.

We are particularly interested in your personal statement concerning any way(s) in which you feel that you are an underrepresented or otherwise nontraditional individual in your field, and how you enhance the diversity of experiences and perspectives within your field, geographic region, or institution. Applicants should inform their recommenders that the Broadening Participation Committee appreciates information on both how the applicant enhances diversity within their institution and/or scientific field, as well as on their academic and scientific achievements.

The online application is closed.
