The Williams College Biology Department is pleased to announce an academic-year, 40 hours per week, position as an Advanced Technical Assistant to support our highly valued teaching-lab program.
The successful candidate will join a vibrant intellectual community that has a strong commitment to excellence in the sciences and to working effectively with people from diverse backgrounds in a collaborative setting.
Responsibilities:

The Advanced Technical Assistant will support student learning by carefully and accurately preparing materials, including chemical solutions, growth media, organisms, and equipment, for upper-level Biology course labs.

Train students and teaching assistants to use laboratory equipment such as microscopes and the flow cytometer.

Assist other department technical assistants with preparing materials for introductory-level course labs when needed.

You may have the opportunity to assist faculty members in developing new labs for upper-level Biology courses.
Qualifications:

A Bachelor’s Degree in a related field with laboratory experience, or transferable lab skills, required. Master’s Degree preferred.

Familiarity with basic microbiological and molecular biology techniques is preferred, as is experience in the maintenance of mammalian cell lines.

The ability to work independently and cooperatively with faculty and staff.

Excellent communication and organizational skills, and basic computer skills.

The ability to multitask and prioritize in a dynamic environment.

Flexibility and willingness to learn new skills to support the changing needs of the department.
This position requires fully in-person work and remote work arrangements will not be available at this time.
