Job Summary:
West Texas A&M University, a member of The Texas A&M University System located in Canyon, Texas, invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Cell and Molecular Biology (65% teaching, 30% research, 5% service). This full time (9 month) position at West Texas A&M University will include responsibilities in teaching (minimum of 9 ACH/semester), research, and service supportive of the general and cell/molecular biology programs. Teaching duties will include existing and new courses within the successful candidate’s area of expertise at the undergraduate and graduate levels, including Molecular Cell Biology. The successful candidate will conduct research in some area of Cell and Molecular Biology; seek extramural funding; publish in peer-reviewed journals; attend professional meetings; provide academic advisement to undergraduate and graduate students in the Pre-professional disciplines; and engage undergraduate and graduate students in research.
Work Performed:
Teaching a minimum of 9 adjusted contact hours (9 ACH) of selected undergraduate and graduate courses, including but not necessarily limited to, Introductory Cell Biology, Advanced Cell Biology and Lab, and new courses based on candidate’s interest, experience, and expertise. An exceptional candidate would have interest in, and the ability to teach Immunology and/or Cancer Biology.
- Developing an externally funded research program capable of supporting undergraduate and graduate student research experiences.
- Conducting professional service for the institution, the profession, and the community.
- Recruiting students to the undergraduate and graduate programs in Life, Earth, & Environmental Sciences.
- Advising students on matters of degree plans, course scheduling, and other academic matters.
Necessary Qualifications:
- An earned Ph.D. in Biology or closely related area from an accredited institution. ABD will not be considered.
- Demonstrated interest, and ability, to teach courses in general biology, including Advanced Cell Biology.
- Willingness to teach a minimum of 9 adjusted contact hours (ACH) per semester.
- Competency in biological research as evidenced by publications in impactful peer-reviewed journals (full citations to be provided in CV).
- Excellent quantitative, technological, and communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Demonstrated experience and excellence in instruction at the university level and mentoring student research.
- An interest in, or experience, teaching Immunology.
- Demonstrated experience in seeking/obtaining extramural funding (including documentation of awards and amounts in CV).
- Demonstrated ability and skills in leadership, mentoring, and building teamwork.
- Experience and demonstrated track record in developing collaborative research with other scientists, research centers and/or agencies and organizations.
