Research Associate for EcoEvoDevo

Posted on June 13, 2023

We are seeking a positive, motivated, and responsible individual to join the Ledón-Rettig lab as a full-time Research Associate at Indiana University. We use interdisciplinary approaches to understand both the proximate mechanisms mediating developmental plasticity and its ecological and evolutionary outcomes. To answer these questions, we use spadefoot toads, whose larvae exhibit extraordinary developmental plasticity in response to dietary and social cues; further, this plasticity is associated with the evolution of novel and complex traits, such as predaceous and often cannibalistic behaviors. We currently house a colony at Indiana University to facilitate controlled, experimental investigation of developmental plasticity, and collect our animals from the field, both locally and in the Southwestern United States.

For more information on our group, please visit our lab website (ledonrettig.com)

A successful candidate will fulfill three main goals: (i) maintenance of the spadefoot toad colony, (ii) regular lab maintenance and organization, and (iii) data collection and analysis. The candidate will be expected to learn to use new techniques and software, interact with and assist other members of the lab, and attend and present their data at lab meetings. The candidate will also be expected to mentor undergraduate students in the laboratory and participate in outreach events.
