The Center for Functional Anatomy and Evolution at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, invites applications for a NSF-funded postdoctoral position to be supervised by Dr. Matthew J. Ravosa. To explore the role of brain encephalization on skull development, this experimental study will compare and contrast the osteogenic potential and mechanosensitivity of primary mouse perinatal cranial osteoblasts loaded singularly or in co-culture with site-matched dura mater cells. The position will begin as early as September 1, 2024 and will be for two years, pending successful annual evaluations. Applicants must possess a PhD and/or MD, or be nearly completed, in a scientific discipline that trains one to conduct integrative research in bioanthropology, skeletal biology, bioengineering, biomechanics, functional morphology, ontogeny, evolutionary morphology, cell biology, and/or molecular biology. Preference will be given to applicants with previous experience in tissue culture (especially primary culture of connective tissues), Flexcell loading analysis, as well as a willingness to participate in graduate and undergraduate mentoring and research.
