The Weinstein Lab at Utah State University is seeking a postdoctoral researcher to investigate host-parasite-microbiome interactions, to begin in Fall 2023. The lab examines the complex interactions between hosts, symbionts and their environment using both wild mammals and model rodent systems. Current projects couple fieldwork and molecular approaches to characterize host-symbiont associations, test how parasite infection impacts host and microbiome function, and explore how disease dynamics change in human altered-landscapes.
The successful candidate will contribute to research on the structure and stability of parasite associated microbial communities in vertebrate hosts using a variety of molecular and experimental approaches.
Applicants should have a PhD in Molecular Biology or Molecular Ecology, Microbiology, Parasitology, or related areas. An ideal candidate should have experience in microbiology or parasitology, as well as strong lab skills, experience working with rodents, and excellent writing skills. Additional preferred qualifications include expertise in statistical analyses, bioinformatics, and genomics. In addition to working in close collaboration with Dr. Weinstein and current lab members, candidates will be encouraged to develop independent research and outreach projects within the scope of the lab.
Funding is currently available to support this position for 18 months, with the possibility for extension depending on funding and project progress.
Our lab is a collaborative and interdisciplinary group. We aim to create a diverse and welcoming environment that supports creative and curiosity-driven science while promoting the professional, scientific and personal growth of every lab member.
