The Mayerl lab at Northern Arizona University (NAU) is recruiting a PhD student interested in the physiology of feeding and drinking to begin in Fall 2023. Students interested in biomechanics, neurophysiology, muscle function, and organismal physiology are encouraged to apply. Students will participate in experiments to develop and validate a biomimetic nipple for infant feeding, the current focus of the Mayerl lab. They will also be encouraged to develop their own independent project for their dissertation research.
The Department of Biological Sciences at NAU is a vibrant community with over 40 tenure track faculty, over 100 graduate students, and approximately 3000 undergraduate students. Graduate students in the lab will be supported through a combination of Teaching Assistantships (during the school year) and Research assistantships (during the summer) and will be able to interact regularly with the active physiology faculty community in the department.
Interested applicants should contact Christopher Mayerl (Christopher.mayerl@nau.edu). In the email, please attach your CV/resume, and detail any research experience you have (if any), in addition to any questions you might have about the position, or about NAU in general.
