Ph.D. Student Positions in Snake Biomechanics

Posted on October 16, 2023

The Astley Lab at the University of Akron is recruiting Ph.D. students for Fall 2024 with an interest in snake biomechanics and snake-inspired robots.

Our lab works at the intersection of biology and robotics, with a particular emphasis on the the biomechanics of snakes and limbless locomotion.  We use methods such as motion capture, high-speed video, force-sensors, muscle physiology, fluoromicrometry, robotics, 3D printing, computer vision, and mathematical modeling to explore a wide range of questions.  We also provide extensive training in these methods, regardless of prior background.

Those interested are encouraged to reach out to Dr. Henry Astley at hastley@uakron.edu and apply via the University of Akron Integrated Bioscience Ph.D. program.
