I am recruiting Ph.D. and/or M.S. students to join us at the Neuroethology and Sensory Ecology (NeuroSensE) Lab at Illinois State University in the Fall 2025. If you are a highly motivated student interested in the social lives of birds, and how they communicate in challenging environmental conditions, our lab is the right place for you!
In the NeuroSensE Lab, we take an integrative and comparative approach, combining field and lab work to investigate social behavior in birds. Students will have the opportunity to join ongoing projects in the lab, develop their own project, or do a mix of both. Broad topics that we investigate include:
- The evolution of communication signals and sensory systems
- Neural basis of multimodal communication and social behavior in birds
If you are interested in joining the NeuroSense Lab, please reach out to me (fgduque@ilstu.edu) including the following information:
- Your curriculum vitae.
- A short paragraph highlighting your research experience (lab and field, if applicable).
- A short paragraph about your research interests and how they align with the topics we investigate at the NeuroSensE Lab.
- Brief statement on your career goals.
The School of Biological Sciences at Illinois State University provides funding for graduate students through Teaching Assistantships. More information on the department and application process can be found at https://biology.illinoisstate.edu/graduate/bio-as-graduate/application-procedure/
