MSc opportunity. Assessment of physiological health of glaucous-winged gulls in the Salish Sea. This project will involve capturing and blood sampling gulls in January-February (one field season 2024) at coastal sites throughout the Salish Sea, with analysis of blood samples for assessment of physiological health in relation to anthropogenic pressures. This project is a collaboration with, and is funded by, the Wildlife Research Division (WRD) of Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC). Experience with laboratory analysis (physiological assays) essential, and experience of seabird fieldwork an advantage. The goal is to provide baseline physiological data and identify important seabird areas to inform decision making in the event of a major oil spill. Start date: ideally September 2023, or January 2024.
