Position: Dr. Omera Matoo has an opening available for a MS/Ph.D. student to begin for Summer/Fall 2024 in the Department of Biology at the University of South Dakota. Research interests in the Matoo Lab include understanding the genetic basis of complex trait variation and the underlying molecular mechanisms. Employing cellular physiology, genetics, organismal biology, molecular ecology and bioinformatics, the research group conducts studies on both model organisms and non-model organisms.

Qualifications: Dr. Matoo is seeking someone who is creative, curious, motivated, and capable of working effectively both independently and in collaborative groups. Candidates with strong experience in Drosophila biology and bioinformatics is required. Strong communication (written and oral), quantitative, and people-management skills are essential, as is a desire to learn.

There is opportunity to design, with funds existing to support technical help, conference travel, and computing needs. The graduate student will be responsible for completion of a research project (planning, analysis, and writing), sharing results via conference presentations and peer-reviewed publications, and completion of coursework.

Stipend: Graduate Teaching Assistantship support is available with additional funds as Graduate Research Assistantship (GRA) support ($18-22K/year). Opportunities to secure additional funds will exist as needed.
