Job: Data Manager
The Resilience Institute Bridging Biological Training and Research (RIBBiTR) invites applications for a data manager to assist the institute’s researchers in developing and managing workflows for the collection, sharing, and archiving of ecological data. RIBBiTR is a multi-campus institute funded by the National Science Foundation Biology Integration Institutes program, and is focused on understanding factors facilitating the resilience of amphibians in the face of emerging infectious diseases and other global stressors. This is a full-time, one-year position, with the possibility of up to three additional years pending satisfactory performance. The position can be remote or based at one of several of the institute’s campuses or associated research stations. Working closely with researchers, the data manager will (1) develop and maintain relational databases (PostgreSQL) to store collected field and laboratory data and provide access to databases via user-friendly clients (e.g., Shiny app), (2) develop digital applications for the collection of field and laboratory data, (3) facilitate the use and sharing of collected data among the institute’s researchers via trainings, (4) assist researchers in developing reproducible workflows and archiving of collected data and associated metadata in public and private repositories, and (5) assist with or lead analysis of specific RIBBiTR datasets and co-author scientific papers (depending on the applicant’s biological and statistical expertise).
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in natural sciences, computer science, or related field at time of application
- A minimum of two years experience in data management, particularly in the natural sciences
Preferred Qualifications
- Demonstrated proficiency in database design, database management, and data security.
- Coursework in statistical analysis and experience analyzing ecological data.
- Self-motivated and comfortable working independently and as part of a team.
- Demonstrated ability to solve complex problems independently.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and a strong customer service orientation.
- Interest in working with diverse teams of scientists to understand their data management needs and develop innovative solutions.
