Graduate Student Position in the Functional Morphology and Biomechanics of Organismal Attachment

The Garner Organismal Attachment Lab (GOAL) in the Department of Biology and the BioInspired Institute at Syracuse University is actively recruiting one graduate student for a Fall 2023 start date to focus on the functional morphology and biomechanics of anole/gecko attachment. Project details will be driven by student interests. Students will need to apply to SU Biology’s Ph.D. or M.S. Graduate Program and, if accepted, will be supported via teaching assistantship (TA) for the duration of their graduate studies. Competitive departmental and University fellowships are available to provide research assistantship (RA) support. Tuition is paid in full, salary is competitive, and additional summer support is available. Priority application deadline for SU’s Biology Graduate Program is December 1st, 2022.

Required Qualifications

  • B.Sc. or a B.A. degree in biology, zoology, bioengineering, or similar field
  • Ability to work independently and in collaborative groups, problem solve, and troubleshoot
  • Interest in integrative and interdisciplinary approaches to research

Preferred Qualifications

  • Undergraduate and/or M.S. research experience
  • Experience with common techniques used in functional morphology, anatomy, and/or biomechanics research
  • Experience with animal care and handling
  • Willingness to travel for field research
