Job Description:
The Biology Department at Fairfield University invites applications for a tenure-track assistant professor position in Physiology beginning Fall 2023. Applicants with interests in any area of Physiology are encouraged to apply. Preference will be given to candidates whose research program focuses on vertebrate physiology, especially human physiology. Particular areas of interest include nutrition, reproductive biology, and immunology. The candidate must be able to actively incorporate undergraduate students into their research program on-campus or in the local area. Teaching responsibilities include participation in our team-taught General Biology sequence, upper-division courses in the candidate’s area of specialty, and courses for non-science majors as part of our Magis core curriculum. The teaching load is three undergraduate courses per semester. The candidate will also be expected to be active in service to the department, University, and professional communities.
Requirements:
Applicants are expected to have completed a Ph.D. in Biology or a related field by August 2023, have a strong commitment to excellence in undergraduate teaching, and the potential to develop an active and sustainable research program with undergraduate research students. The ideal candidate will have post-doctoral experience, experience teaching at the undergraduate level, evidence of peer-reviewed scholarly accomplishments, and an understanding and commitment to educating undergraduate students in the liberal arts tradition, a hallmark of Jesuit education. The Biology Department consists of sixteen full-time faculty members representing a range of specialties and is housed in a spacious, well-equipped facility in the Bannow Science Center. The Biology Department has a vibrant culture of undergraduate student-faculty collaboration in research, numerous departmental events and lecture series, and a large student interest in the health sciences.
