The Departments of Psychology and Biology at SUNY Geneseo are seeking applicants for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position with an emphasis in Neuroscience to begin August 2023. Although the area of specialization is open, the departments are particularly interested in candidates who are prepared to teach undergraduate courses in General Biology, Anatomy & Physiology, Research Methods, and/or an advanced neuroscience course in their area of expertise. The successful candidate will bring a neuroscience perspective that broadens our growing program and complements the expertise of current faculty members. Among the goals of the search is to increase the diversity of the faculty, and we welcome applicants who are from groups that are historically underrepresented at the College.

Duties of the position include:

  • Teach required courses in the biology and psychology department.
  • Teach required courses in the neuroscience curriculum and develop upper-division electives in their area of expertise.
  • Pursue a research program relevant to neuroscience, with involvement of undergraduate students.
  • Contribute to department functioning through advisement and committee service.
  • Contribute service to the college, discipline, and/or community.

Required Qualifications:

  • Doctoral degree (PhD) in neuroscience or related field conferred by August 2023.
  • Evidence of potential for excellence in teaching undergraduate courses in field of expertise.
  • Evidence of a research program relevant to neuroscience with the capability for involving undergraduate researchers.
  • Must demonstrate a commitment to fostering and working within a diverse and inclusive environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Scholarly expertise in neuroscience that complements the expertise of other faculty members in the department.
  • Undergraduate teaching experience in neuroscience, anatomy and physiology, and research methods.
  • Evidence of an effective research program using a preclinical research model.
