Assistant Professor of Biological Sciences

Posted on September 18, 2024

The Department of Biological Sciences at Mount Holyoke College invites applicants for a tenure track position in developmental biology at the Assistant Professor level beginning fall 2025. We welcome applications from researchers with expertise in any aspect across the breadth of developmental biology, from the cell and molecular level to the level of the whole organism or ecosystem. As biology has become more technology-driven, synthetic, and interdisciplinary, we envision that our new developmental biologist could cross traditional boundaries. Appropriate fields include but are not limited to cancer, aging, reproductive technology, regenerative medicine, and evolutionary development.

Ph.D. or ABD required. The applicant should have a strong commitment to research and undergraduate teaching; a research program that can easily accommodate and encourage undergraduates is crucial. Like all tenured and tenure track members of the department, the new hire would have a dedicated laboratory space in which to supervise independent study students as part of a thriving research program. The successful candidate will have a demonstrated record of strong teaching at the undergraduate level and experience mentoring students who are broadly diverse with regard to race, ethnicity, socioeconomic status, gender, nationality, sexual orientation, disability, and religion.

Applicants will have the opportunity to participate in one or more Five College programs such as Culture, Health and Science; BioMathematical Sciences; Coastal and Marine Sciences; or Reproductive Health, Rights, and Justice.

Applications must be made online by submitting a cover letter, a CV, and statements on the following: (1) teaching philosophy, (2) research plans, and (3) mentoring a diverse student body.
