The Department of Biology at Radford University invites applications for a tenure-track teaching and research faculty position in Genetics, at the Assistant Professor rank, beginning August 2023. We seek applicants who are committed to a teacher-scholar model, demonstrate the potential for outstanding teaching with a diverse student body, and maintain a productive research program with a commitment to mentoring undergraduate students.
Teaching responsibilities may include introductory courses in our newly-designed biology curriculum, biology courses for non-majors, upper-level genetics/molecular courses, and/or electives in the candidate’s area of expertise. Faculty in our department also maintain an active research program involving undergraduate students and contribute to university service. We provide peer-mentorship and support candidates as they establish these programs and progress toward tenure and promotion.
The Radford University Department of Biology offers majors in Biology, Biomedical Sciences, and Medical Laboratory Science, and a 1-year post-baccalaureate program in Medical Laboratory Science, on both the Radford and Roanoke campuses. On the Radford campus, the department is housed in the recently constructed Center for the Sciences and in the adjoining, newly renovated Reed-Curie Halls. We are nearing completion of a five-year Howard Hughes Medical Institute Inclusive Excellence grant to use project-based learning to improve student retention and inclusion in STEM at Radford, and we are participating in the Council on Undergraduate Research Transformations program to revise our curriculum to enhance course-based research opportunities for all students. Our department strives for a culture of diversity, equity, and inclusion. We are committed to creating paths for success that enable our students, faculty, and staff to move from where they are to where they want to go. We are working to create an environment that celebrates differences, challenges privileges, and provides effective opportunities for growth. We understand diversity as the differences that define our community. We value our differing experiences and perspectives extending beyond legally protected categories, including but not limited to race, ethnicity, socioeconomic status, geographical origins, education, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, nationality, age, language, veteran status, marital status, genetic information, abilities, and cognition. We seek to cultivate a culture of inclusive excellence where all voices are valued, respected, and integrated into the fabric of our community.
