Assistant Professor – Botany/Environmental Studies Position

Hendrix College invites applications for a tenure-track position as Assistant Professor of Biology and Environmental Studies to begin in August 2023. The College seeks to extend its tradition of excellence in teaching and scholarship by attracting faculty who combine mastery of their disciplines with broad intellectual interests and commitment to the aims of a liberal arts college. The successful candidate will teach courses in Botany, as well as introductory and non-major biology courses (such as Plants & People, Fundamentals of Cell Biology) for the Biology & Health Sciences Department, where they will help manage greenhouse and herbarium resources. They will also teach one course in the Environmental Studies sequence (Introduction, Colloquium, or Seminar) each year and help coordinate the Environmental Studies Program. and www.hendrix.edu/EnvironmentalStudies/. Teaching load is six course equivalents per year (one course equivalent comprises one lecture or two lab sections). Doctorate is preferred; ABD will be considered.
Applications should include a cover letter addressing the candidate’s interest in teaching in a demanding liberal arts environment, a curriculum vitae, a statement of teaching interests, evidence of teaching effectiveness, undergraduate and graduate transcripts, and a statement of scholarly interest. The cover letter should also include a statement indicating how the candidate plans to foster diversity, equity, and inclusion in their work with students.
