The Department of Biological Sciences (DBS) seeks two outstanding tenure-track Assistant Professors with expertise in neurogenetics or computational neuroscience to join a vibrant and growing community of scholar-educators at the John D Macarthur campus in Jupiter, Florida beginning fall semester 2022. We particularly welcome applications from candidates with interests complementary to existing programmatic strengths in behavioral neuroscience, genetics, development, and evolution. Candidates using both traditional model as well as non-model genetic systems would be welcome. Candidates using Drosophila, zebrafish, or other aquatic model systems are encouraged to apply because the DBS has facilities to support research using these model systems. We welcome candidates using image-based approaches such as functional neuroimaging and optogenetics who would take advantage of FAU’s and Max Planck Florida Institute for Neuroscience’s world class imaging core facilities, and build collaborations within and between the institutes. The Jupiter campus is the site of FAU’s growing life science establishment. The state of Florida has invested nearly $1 billion to bring Scripps Research and Max Planck to the Jupiter campus, and there are numerous opportunities to collaborate among the three institutes. FAU has moved several life scientists from Biological Sciences and Psychology to this campus and has established two of its research pillars, in brain science and health science, on the campus to complement Scripps and Max Planck. A new building will be completed in mid-2022 to house the FAU Stiles-Nicholson Brain Institute. This position includes a generous start up package and lab and office space, and the successful candidate will hold a tenure track appointment in the DBS. As part of FAU’s overall strategic plan “Race to Excellence,” Florida Atlantic University has identified Neuroscience as an area of research strength. The successful candidate will be an active member of FAU graduate programs in Integrative Biology and Neuroscience. More information can be found at http://biology.fau.edu and at https://www.fau.edu/ibrain/gradneuro/. Applicants must apply electronically to the currently posted position on the Office of Human Resources’ job website (https://fau.edu/jobs) REQ12160 and REQ12361. Informal inquiries can be addressed to: Dr. Rindy Anderson, Chair of the Search Committee, (andersonr@fau.edu ). Review of applications will continue until the position is filled. Qualifications: Candidates must possess an earned Ph.D. in a relevant discipline by the time of appointment. Postdoctoral experience is preferred. Candidates should have a strong publication record commensurate with their experience, demonstrated potential for establishing programs of extramurally funded research, and clear promise of excellent instructional capacity. Candidates will teach both graduate and undergraduate courses in neuroscience and in areas of their interest that helps meet programmatic needs, and will supervise MS and PhD students. FAU’s College of Science is committed to creating an accessible, supportive environment and an educational experience that recognizes diversity and cultural competence as integral components of academic excellence. Candidates who can contribute to that goal are encouraged to apply and to identify their strengths in this area. We are seeking to strengthen our units’ climates for diversity, equity & inclusion by adding faculty skilled or interested in understanding cultural differences, and in advocating for individuals of all ethnicities, genders, ages, and backgrounds.
