Influences of age and reproductive status on locomotor performance of mice

ROGOWITZ, G. L.: Influences of age and reproductive status on locomotor performance of mice.

I tested whether the locomotor performance and aerobic capacity of the white-footed mouse (Peromyscus leucopus) change with age during postnatal development or with reproductive status (pregnancy and lactation). Either could have ecological or evolutionary consequences because locomotor performance can affect predation risk and competitive ability. This talk highlights the age-specific individual variation seen in maximal sprint speed, aerobic capacity, and voluntary behavior.
