Applying what you learned in CLASS Transforming biological laboratory education so that it is universally accessible

WHEATLY, M.G.*; WOOD, T.J.; RENICK, P.; VERNOOY, J.; TASCHENBERGER, L.; WENDELN, M.: Applying what you learned in CLASS: Transforming biological laboratory education so that it is universally accessible.

Creating Laboratory Access for Science Students (The CLASS Project) is an NSF-funded initiative to train educators to develop lab exercises and field trips that are universally accessible through attendance at a 2 week workshop. Pre/post assessment has demonstrated that the CLASS workshop improves educators’ attitudes about and preparedness to teach science to student with disabilities. This talk will highlight how educators have translated their CLASSroom experience back to their home institution. Systemically reforming the biological laboratory education of all students will involve building a network of educators trained in science and disability. CLASS project disseminable products and web resources can assist in this endeavor. NSF grant DUE/CCD 9653121. http://biology.wright.edu/labgrant/index.html.
