Description: The Department of Biology at Ball State University invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Field Ecology. This is a full-time, 9-month, benefit-eligible position offering a competitive salary and a generous start-up package.
The successful candidate will be able to teach undergraduate courses that fall broadly within the fields of Zoology and Ecology, such as Herpetology, Ornithology, Population/Community Ecology, Conservation Biology, and/or General Biology. The candidate should also be able to develop an externally funded, field-based research program that will involve undergraduate and graduate (Master’s and/or doctoral) students in novel avenues of investigation in the field of zoology/ecology, while complementing and collaborating with current faculty in the Department of Biology.
The research program should focus on any aspect of Zoology or Ecology related to the listed teaching responsibilities. Our field biology concentrations are unique among our peer institutions, and, accordingly, we are especially interested in individuals who can excite and motivate students from diverse backgrounds in field studies. Candidates whose research programs have a significant field component and focus on aspects of vertebrate ecology are especially encouraged to apply.
The strongest candidates will have a record of accomplished teaching at the undergraduate and graduate level, demonstrated evidence of outstanding scholarship in the form of peer-reviewed publications, and potential for external funding.

Minimum Qualifications: Earned doctorate in Biology or related field (at time of appointment) from an accredited college or university. Evidence of scholarly productivity demonstrated by at least one publication in a peer-reviewed journal.
Preferred Qualifications: Demonstrated teaching ability in Zoology and Ecology using student-centered learning techniques; willingness to take students in the field; effective written and oral communication skills; commitment to excellence in teaching; competency in current research concepts and approaches; evidence of scholarly activity, such as postdoctoral experience, publications, and successful procurement of external grants; established field-based research agenda that complements existing departmental research programs; potential to increase the inclusion of more diverse undergraduate and graduate student researchers; and collaborative potential with existing faculty at Ball State University.
