Doctoral Lecturer – Biology, Department of Sciences
The Department of Sciences at John Jay College of Criminal Justice invites applications for one full-time Doctoral Lecturer position to begin in Fall 2024. The successful candidate will teach biology courses in our undergraduate majors and minors, from entry level up to capstone seminars.
Candidates must be willing to serve as an advisor and mentor to students in the majors. Three years of successful college-level teaching experience is required, as are positive teaching evaluations. Candidates are expected to have expertise in teaching biology courses. The hiring committee is especially interested in applicants who contribute to the diversity mission of the college through their leadership, community service, research, and/or lived experiences.
The position of lecturer is tenure-bearing through what is called a “certificate of continuous employment” (CCE) after the fourth annual reappointment. This position of lecturer is a teaching position with a course load of eight classes per year in addition to significant contribution of service to the department. There is no expectation of research or publication.

ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT OF SCIENCES
The Department of Sciences at John Jay College of Criminal Justice is a vibrant community ranked among the oldest and most prestigious in the country in the field of forensic science. Our faculty is internationally recognized for its diverse expertise in chemistry, cellular and molecular biology, toxicology, entomology, pathology, and criminalistics. The Department offers a Bachelor of Science in forensic science (which includes the three tracks of criminalistics, molecular biology and toxicology), a bachelor of science in toxicology and a bachelor of science in cellular & molecular biology. A Master of Science in forensic science is also offered in the three tracks previously listed.
QUALIFICATIONS
Candidates must have a Ph.D. in Biology or a related field at the time of appointment, although outstanding ABDs near completion may apply; however, degree should be conferred prior start date (by July 1st 2024). The ideal candidate will provide evidence of teaching success and of incorporating digital emerging technologies in biology education. Also required is the willingness to participate in course and program development, and the ability to work with others for the good of our institution. Three years of teaching experience are required for the position.
COMPENSATION
$56,821 – $98,309 Salary commensurate with education and credentials.
