Position Description Summary:
The Department of Biological Sciences at The George Washington University invites applicants for a position as an Assistant Professor of Biology to begin in Fall 2024. This is a full-time, renewable, Special Service contract position with a course load of 3 courses per semester (Fall and Spring). Candidates with a background in genetics, cellular biology, and/or molecular biology are particularly encouraged to apply. Because this is a teaching position, there are no research expectations , but the candidate will contribute to the service mission of the University.
In addition, the candidate will also have the opportunity to collaborate with educational consultants and instructional technology specialists through the Instructional Core team (https://library.gwu.edu/course-design-and-teaching) to receive professional development in evidence-based pedagogy, course (re-)design, active learning, assessments, etc. Office space will be provided in Bell Hall, where the teaching labs for our Introductory Biology courses are housed.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities:
The primary responsibilities of the candidate will involve the design, delivery, and supervision of undergraduate courses associated with our Introductory Biology sequence, which includes a large lecture section in Introductory Biology courses for either majors or non-majors each semester. There may also be opportunities to rotate into an upper-division course related to the candidate’s area of expertise. The candidate will manage and coordinate labs and lectures while collaborating with our teaching faculty, laboratory managers, graduate teaching assistants, and undergraduate teaching assistants to ensure a high-quality educational experience that prepares undergraduate students for advanced coursework in biology.
Minimum Qualifications: 
Applicants must have completed a Ph.D. in Biology or related discipline by the time the appointment begins. Applicants must have experience teaching a combination of lecture and laboratory courses.
