The Technical Sales Manager is the principal point of contact between Sable Systems International (SSI) and customers, current and prospective. The Technical Sales Manager shall be an expert in the setup, operation, and intended applications of SSI’s Classic line of equipment. The sales manager seeks to understand the customer’s research and budget and uses this information to ensure the customer is provided with the right products and services. In doing so, the sales manager develops and maintains good customer relations as well as stays up to date on advances within the field.
Administrative responsibilities include but are not limited to, the use of customer relationship software programs to execute the sales process. This includes input and maintenance of customer data. The sales manager generates system quotations and submits sales orders for processing.

- Advise biologists and/or their students or technicians on system setup of Classic line products for applications that vary in scale and complexity.
- Advise on the proper configuration of Classic Line metabolism measuring systems.
- Advise on points of experimental design.
- Perform feasibility studies.
- Convey the voice of the customer to other company departments.
- Identify or create new applications for SSI products.
- Identify and develop new markets for SSI products.
- Develop a social/business network of Sable customers and prospective customers.
- Utilize the social/business network as a customer resource for Sable products, Sable activities, and for pertinent scientific research.
- Develop company-to-company and company-to-university partnerships.
- Develop peer-to-peer relationships with key opinion leaders.
- Present and sell company products and services to current and potential clients.
- Achieve sales goals as set by company management.
- Grow sales of Classic Line products by establishing, developing and maintaining strong relationships with customers in assigned territory.
- Timely communicate with SSI customers to obtain sales orders and ensure that the solutions provided by SSI work successfully once the buying decision has been made.
- Identify and assist in resolving client concerns.
- Follow up on new leads and referrals.
- Utilize company leads to expand current customer base and follow up all leads promptly.
- Qualify and prioritize new and existing sales leads and opportunities within NetSuite Customer Relationship Management software.
- Establish and maintain current client and potential client relationships.
- Develop and create customized, clear and effective written proposals/quotations for customers to meet specific customer requirements efficiently.
- Manage all customer interactions and activity by utilizing NetSuite to record data in a timely and accurate manner.
- Present technical and competitive information in a clear, concise manner.
- Coordinate sales efforts with development, operations and internal sales at SSI to determine how existing SSI products and services could be adapted to best meet customer needs.
- Keep abreast of product applications, technical services, market conditions, competitive activities, advertising and promotional trends through the reading of pertinent literature and consulting with SSI Marketing and Customer Support areas.
- Communicate new product and service opportunities, special developments, information, or feedback gathered to appropriate company staff.
- Stay abreast of market conditions regarding products, product updates, support offerings and new technologies through available resources.
- Attend and help plan local, national, and international tradeshows and seminars as required.Promote products at trade shows, conferences, seminars or conventions.
- Identify customer needs for technical support or training and communicate required actions to SSI Customer Support.
- Maintain and continually update the customer database in NetSuite, including forecasting, customer history, and key contact information, etc.
- Continually update job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities.
- Other duties as assigned.
Skills and Competencies:
- Excellent written and verbal communication in English.
- Proficient on the use of analytical equipment.
- Positive attitude with the ability to make cold calls when required.
- Ability to Travel up to 25% of the time.
- Solid critical thinking and problem-solving abilities.
- Strong presentation skills with the ability to develop and deliver presentations.
- Strong negotiating skills.
Education and Experience:
- Master’s degree or Doctoral degree in biology.
- Experience in metabolic measurement preferred.
