The Department of Biology at Washington and Lee University invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Biology in the area of Physiology, beginning July 1, 2024. Candidates should be prepared to teach physiology courses with and without lab across 100 to 300 level courses. Inclusion of students in research is also a central value of our teacher-scholar model. We are especially interested in candidates who could support interdisciplinary programs in Environmental Studies, Neuroscience and/or Data Science.
The school calendar consists of two 12-week terms, one in the fall and one in the winter, and a 4-week spring term. The teaching load is 5 courses per year. There is no summer teaching. Support for research includes laboratory start-up funding, conference funding, summer research funding, and pre-tenure leave, as well as opportunities to present to faculty cohorts and programs on campus; teaching support is available through university-wide workshops and the Harte Center for Teaching and Learning.

Qualifications
Preferred candidates will hold a Ph.D. or have ABD status in Biology and will be able to teach Physiology related courses as well as upper division courses in Data Science, Neuroscience or Environmental Studies.

- One to two-page teaching and research statements with option to include: sample syllabi, works in preparation, grant proposals, manuscripts in preparation and evidence of commitment to Diversity, Equity and Inclusion
- Names and contact details of three references who are willing and able to write confidential letters of recommendation (we will solicit the letters for candidates when they are invited for on-campus interviews)
