Postdoctoral Position: Musculoskeletal Modeling and Biomechanics

Posted on November 8, 2022
Expires: March 16, 2025

The Laboratory of David Lin at Washington State University, Pullman, WA, invites applications for a postdoctoral researcher appointment in the area of musculoskeletal and comparative biomechanics within the research groups of Dr. David Lin and Dr. Craig McGowan at the University of Southern California School of Medicine. Our groups investigate the biomechanics of bipedal hopping in kangaroo rats to understand how the musculoskeletal system compensates for terrain irregularities and changes in substrate during locomotion. The postdoctoral researcher will participate in ongoing and new studies and will be expected to participate in the NSF-funded project entitled, “Elucidating the contributions of nonlinearities in musculotendon properties to enabling locomotion in unpredictable environments.  Computational musculoskeletal modelling experience is highly desirable for this position. The postdoctoral researcher will interact closely with our cross-disciplinary colleagues spanning Bioengineering, Kinesiology, and Neuroscience, including members of the Washington Center for Muscle Biology. Other expectations include: writing manuscripts, presenting at lab meetings, journal club, seminars, and professional conferences. In addition, the postdoctoral scholar will have the opportunity to help graduate and undergraduate students develop their research interests and skills in a mentoring role. Candidates should have a PhD degree in bioengineering, biomedical engineering, mechanical engineering, kinesiology, or a related field. We seek candidates experienced in animal research with a strong biomechanical background, or those with a background in human biomechanics or physical sciences/engineering interested in exploring biomechanics using animal models. Strong technical skills, including programming, anatomical analyses, and computational biomechanics are highly desirable. The appointment is initially for one year, with the potential for re-appointment in a second year. The postdoctoral position is open for appointment in the Beginning of 2023, but we can be somewhat flexible on the start date. If you are interested, apply online (https://hrs.wsu.edu/jobs/, search for position R-7575) and include a cover letter outlining your background and relevant experience, your CV, selected publications and contact information for three references. Feel free to contact Dr. Lin for any additional information (davidlin@wsu.edu).

You can also reach out to Dr. McGowan at the SICB 2023 in Austin.
