Postdoctoral Scholar or Staff Scientist in Systematics/Phylogenetic Comparative Methods

Posted on April 29, 2022

A postdoctoral researcher (PhD <5 years) or staff scientist position (PhD >5 years) in Systematics and Phylogenetic Comparative Methods is available in the new Marine Macroevolution Unit at the Okinawa Institute of Science and Technology (OIST) (groups.oist.jp/mmu). We seek a highly motivated, expert researcher with a track record of excellence and deep interest in phylogenetics, including the use of morphological and molecular data, application of Bayesian models, and the use of phylogenetic comparative methods. The researcher will pursue groundbreaking projects on the systematics of living and fossil fishes, the role of trait changes and environmental shifts in diversification, and the reconstruction of ancestral states and evolutionary rates, as well as pursue model development.

This postdoc/staff scientist position is available for 3+ years (dependent on progress) and has a flexible start date throughout 2022-2023. All unit positions come with research and travel funding, as well as housing, child care, insurance, and relocation allowances. Researchers at OIST have access to shared facilities and resources with full time techs, including a marine science station, environmental informatics section, sequencing facilities, imaging lab with micro-CT, a 3D printing and fabrication lab, and a high-powered computing cluster.
Initial Review Date is June 1, 2022, but applications will be reviewed until filled. For application details please visit: https://www.oist.jp/careers/postdoctoral-scholar-or-staff-scientist-systematics-and-phylogenetic-comparative-methods
