A postdoctoral research associate position in wild immunology and disease ecology is available in the Department of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology at Yale University in the lab of Vanessa Ezenwa (https://ezenwalab.yale.edu/). The postdoctoral researcher will contribute to NIH-funded research investigating ecological and evolutionary interactions between gastrointestinal helminths and bovine tuberculosis in wild African buffalo. Animal work is based in Kruger National Park, South Africa and the postdoc will travel internationally to South Africa, along with other members of the Ezenwa lab, for project activities. Specifically, the postdoc will: (1) apply immunological methods (e.g., ELISA, cell culture, flow cytometry, immunohistochemistry, RNA sequencing) to samples collected from experimental and cross-sectional studies; (2) conduct data analysis that combines immunological data with other data streams (e.g., demographic, ecological, genetic, microbiome, behavior); (3) write manuscripts; and (4) collaborate with an international team of scientists with interests spanning animal ecology, wildlife disease, veterinary medicine, parasitology, microbiology, and immunology.
The successful candidate should have: (1) a PhD degree in biology, infectious diseases, immunology, microbiology, molecular biology, ecology and evolutionary biology, or a related discipline (candidates with a DVM-PhD degree are also encouraged to apply); (2) experience using immunological methods and an interest in applying these methods to non-model organisms in a field setting; (3) strong analytical and problem solving skills; (4) a track record of research productivity, as evidenced by first-authored publications in peer-reviewed journals; (5) ability to independently lead projects as well as the willingness to work in a team; and (6) excellent written and oral communication skills. Salary will be commensurate with experience and qualifications and the position is renewable for up to 3 years.
