Meeting Abstract
Hearts, jellyfish, seagrass, and general squishy things all have something in common – they all involve fluid-structure interactions (FSI). FSI applications are numerous and vital in many fields across science and engineering. While there exist robust methods for investigating FSI, many necessitate the use of complex computer simulations. The knowledge of how to carry out out such simulations creates a barrier that has made this traditionally under-utilized and inaccessible by researchers, particularly students. IB2d (“I beg to differ”) is open source software that was specifically designed to make FSI accessible to the scientific community and student researchers. During this talk, I will highlight some standard approaches in FSI across a variety of applications, including biomechanics and biomimetic devices.
