WORKSHOP – Parasites and links to host phenotype, Monday Jan. 6, 2014 7-9 PM

This workshop is intended for researchers who are interested in quantifying phenotypic changes in their hosts following parasite infection, and are relatively unfamiliar with parasites. We will cover topics including how to identify a parasite found in your host study organism, how to determine if phenotypic changes following infection qualify as manipulation, and techniques used to study parasite manipulation of host phenotype. We will end with break-out groups led by a parasitologist in which participants discuss how parasites may be influencing host phenotype in their respective study systems. The workshop is organized by Kelly Weinersmith and Zen Faulkes, and will be run in collaboration with the American Society of Parasitologists.
