University of Alabama, Department of Biological Science – Graduate Student – Fish Physiology

Posted on August 26, 2023

The laboratory of Dr. Matthew Jenny (Department of Biological Science; University of Alabama) is looking to recruit a graduate student to work on a newly funded project characterizing in thermal tolerance in different fish populations that differ in their latitudinal distribution. The project will seek to measure changes in energy usage, and metabolic and physiological processes after chronic thermal challenges. These changes will be phenotypically anchored to global gene expression patterns to develop gene regulatory networks that can elucidate complex cellular mechanisms related to differences in thermal tolerance. The proposed research will provide greater insight into the degree of physiological plasticity of fish from different latitudinal populations.

Interested students should hold a B.S. or M.S. degree in biology or a closely related filed. To apply, please submit the following as a single pdf file: (1) statement summarizing your research background and experience, (2) a curriculum vitae, and (3) names and contact information of three academic or professional references. Applications should be sent to Dr. Jenny (mjjenny@ua.edu). Review of applications will begin immediately. The ideal candidate would be available to start in early January 2024.
