This is an in-person on campus, non-remote position.

Stockton University is seeking to fill a tenure track position at the rank of Assistant Professor in the area of Marine Science for September 2022. Successful applicants will demonstrate excellence in teaching marine science courses in a liberal arts environment, and a willingness to foster undergraduate research. All research areas will be considered, but particular consideration will be given to candidates whose research area complements those of the Marine Science program. Diversity is a key (though under-realized) component of our program’s mission. Thus, we seek candidates who are dedicated to improving intercultural proficiencies and working across differences via engagement of diverse audiences in higher education, advisory services, and the community.  Lastly, we seek a colleague who is versed in active learning — a pedagogical approach that plays a key role in our curriculum, which is designed to support all incoming students regardless of academic preparation.

Responsibilities:

  • Teach a broad range of courses required for the marine biology concentration of the marine science major, both upper and lower division
    • Teaching load is 12 hours each semester, and could consist of lecture and lab sections as well as course offerings in the University’s General Studies “commons”
    • See Stockton Course Catalog for descriptions of Introduction to Marine Biology, Marine Biology Methods and Analysis, Biostatistics, and Survey of Ocean Life for an idea of content areas expected to be demonstrated by successful applicants
  • Model good pedagogy by using a variety of innovative and proven pedagogical approaches including the use of technology and universal design
  • Be actively engaged in and sustain a marine science research program (which can include publications/presentations, seeking internal and external grant funding, and service on state and national committees and professional organizations)
  • Engage students in research experiences and expose them to new and relevant areas of marine science
  • Research interests might include, but are not limited to, bioinformatics, marine/estuarine vertebrates and invertebrates, ecosystem modelling, marine/estuarine microbiology, or aquaculture

  • PhD is required for appointment as Assistant Professor
  • Demonstrated excellence in teaching and scholarship is expected

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Postdoctoral experience is a plus
