The Zhang Lab (https://www.memphis.edu/healthsciences/contact/faculty/yufeng_zhang.php) in the College of Health Sciences at the University of Memphis is seeking a Research Associate I/Lab Manager to work on projects related to the variations and adaptations in animal physiology. This is a full-time position focused on managing the lab, equipment, consumables and carrying out experimental work in cell culture and animal models. The lab manager will also be working closely with both undergraduate and graduate students. The Zhang lab works on the interface of biomedical, biochemical and evolutionary fields to answer both evolutionary and biomedical questions. For evolutionary studies, we are interested in bioenergetic adaptations between different life history strategies. For biomedical aging studies, we are interested in mitochondrial bioenergetics, reactive oxygen species production, and oxidative stress in aging and age-related diseases. The candidate will be working with long-lived organisms such as naked mole-rat and Damaraland mole-rat. Previous experiences on laboratory techniques and research experiences are preferred, but not required. However, the candidate must show your willingness to learn and demonstrate great work ethic. The successful applicant is also expected to have excellent organizational and interpersonal skills. We are especially keen on recruiting candidates from underrepresented backgrounds. The start date is flexible, but ideally no later than June 15th 2022.
