The School of Biological Sciences at Illinois State University in Normal, IL (https://biology.illinoisstate.edu/) invites applications for a nine-month tenure-track position in THE ECOLOGY OF HUMAN IMPACTED SYSTEMS at the level of Assistant Professor. We seek candidates whose research addresses fundamental or applied questions about ecological interactions within human impacted environments, ideally including plants, which could include areas of restoration, urban, or disturbance ecology. We will prioritize applicants taking integrative approaches across population, community and/or ecosystem levels, and preferably planning to develop a research program in the context of Midwestern ecosystems. Candidates should be able to contribute to ecology, conservation, and organismal courses at the undergraduate level, and to develop a graduate course in their area of expertise.
Successful candidates are expected to establish a rigorous, nationally recognized, extramurally funded research program, publish scholarly research in quality, peer-reviewed journals, advise and mentor B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. students in their research groups, and provide effective instruction in their discipline. A Ph.D. in the specific field of biology or a closely related field, and relevant post-doctoral research experience by position start date are required. State law mandates demonstrable oral proficiency in the English language as a requirement of this position. Salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience.
The School of Biological Sciences comprises 23 faculty, approximately 65 graduate students (M.S. and Ph.D.), and over 650 undergraduate majors.
