Job Description:

The Biology Department at Fairfield University invites applications for a full-time tenure-track Marine Biology faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor beginning Fall 2020. Applicants with research interests across any area of Marine Science are encouraged to apply, but candidates with research in Fisheries, Conservation, Plant Biology, or interest/experience in collaborative work with Marine agencies are particularly of interest to the department. The position will support the concentration in Marine Biology within the Biology major and provide a foundation for expansion of the marine science program at Fairfield to include other departments and individuals. The teaching load is three undergraduate courses each semester, with research and university service also required for promotion and tenure.

Applicants are expected to have completed a Ph.D. in Biology with a Marine focus, or closely allied field. Applicants must have a strong commitment to excellence in undergraduate teaching and the potential for developing an active research program in their area of specialization that involves undergraduates. Additionally, a commitment to pedagogical innovation and demonstrated excellence in using technology in the classroom is required. Previous teaching and postdoctoral experience are preferred.

Additional Information:

The department consists of fourteen full-time faculty representing a range of specialties and is housed in a spacious, well-equipped facility in the Bannow Science Center. The biology department has a vibrant culture of undergraduate student-faculty collaboration in research, regular departmental extra-curricular events and guest lecturers, and a large student interest in the health sciences. Our proximity to Long Island Sound provides ready access to estuarine and coastal environments. The salary and benefits for the position are highly competitive.

Fairfield University is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action employer, committed to excellence through diversity, and, in this spirit, particularly welcomes applications from women, persons of color, veterans, Jesuits, and members of historically underrepresented groups.
