Evolutionary History of Organisms
My research include reconstructing the evolutionary history of organisms using molecular, anatomical, and developmental characters. In several projects, I'm examining different facets of amphibian development and the factors that have influenced their evolution. I am also examining the role the environment plays in modifying development and life history.

Another research interest is in the application of information technology to biological questions. I generate computerized 3D reconstructions of the anatomy of adult and larval amphibians, and with colleagues the "MorphologyNet" http://www.morphologynet.org digital library of anatomical images. I am also developing an ontology for amphibian anatomical terms that combines expert user opinion and data mining of literature (see the "AmphibAnat" website http://www.amphibanat.org).
